Picture in my mind - PinkPantheress & Sam Gellaitry

***

REVIEWED: October 9, 2022

I am a huge fan of PinkPantheress' sound in general. I never really thought it was something I would enjoy listening to, but her style of bedroom pop/hyper-pop is actually very addicting to listen to. Her music in general, and this song in particular, is a very fun break from some other songs that may take on very serious or dark themes, and it allows me to just free my mind from these things and have fun. Her accent is also an aspect that makes her music scratch that itch in my brain. The hook to this track is incredibly catchy, especially when she and Sam harmonize. This track falls neatly in line with the rest of her discography. I would say that in terms of building up hype and spreading popularity, TikTok has rapidly accelerated her path to fame, and I have no complaints about that. Unlike other artists who have had their music run into the ground by the platform, I believe it elevated hers. I even discovered her for the very first time on TikTok and dove into the rest of her released singles from there. My first impressions of the song were not bright; I initially did not like it. It did not strike me as something up my alley.  I thought it sounded a bit disjointed at first. I didn’t understand how the instrumental and vocals meshed. As time went on, and I went back to the song, I ended up liking this combination of elements. The more I listened, the more it reeled me in. Songs like this don’t have particularly deep lyrics, they just sound nice, so in terms of lyrical depth I wouldn’t say it brings anything spectacular to the table, but it is quite catchy. In terms of comparison to other tracks in this genre, other than her, I don’t listen to a lot of music in this genre so, I don’t have much to compare it to. If I had to summarize, I would say that the song is GOOD. Why? The instrumentals are very simple but engaging. Her voice is very pleasing to listen to combined with her accent, and I really like the line, “We put both of our hearts on the line” that Sam repeats. I would recommend the track to anyone looking to dip their toes into the genres I listed above, and if you like it to keep exploring. Thank you so much for tuning in to this week's review! See you next Monday.
